FAQs
How many weeks is a typical assignment/contract?
Typically, contracts will be 13 weeks long (approximately 3 months), with the option to extend.
What does the process look like if I am not happy with my contract and want to give notice?
We understand that not every assignment ends up being the perfect fit and Millennium is committed to providing you with the best experience possible. If things are not going as planned, we will make every effort to resolve the situation with the hospital. However, if you are no longer interested in continuing with a contract, Millennium Travel Nursing asks that you provide a 30-day written notice and your recruiter will immediately get to work finding your next placement.
How often do you see positions in my specialty?
Positions change every minute in healthcare. However, given Millennium’s strategic and geographic position in the Northeast market, we have been extremely successful in maintaining employment for all specialties within the hospital system.
Your recruiters are dedicated to checking all hospital systems daily and will provide you updates with openings and compensation packages based upon your preference.
Who decides my schedule for the contract? Who do I speak to if I have to call out?
The hospital makes and provides your schedule for the duration of your 13-week assignment. If you are sick and need to call out, you will contact the Nurse Manager as well as your Recruiter so it is documented on both ends and the hospital can get coverage.
How long is orientation/training?
As a contractor/traveler, you are expected by the facility to hit the ground running in your role. As a result, orientation is often abbreviated in comparison to staff orientation. While each hospital varies, the first week of orientation is normally EMR training, prerequisite modules, and HR training. The second week you can expect to shadow on the unit you will be working on.
How is the compensation package broken down?
As a traveler, you may be eligible to receive tax-free lodging stipends as well as daily per diem allowances depending on how far you are traveling and the circumstances of your assignment. Eligibility is determined ty the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) who regulates the stipend amounts on an annual basis.
Based on your eligibility, your recruiter will break down your compensation package to include your base hourly rate as well as any applicable tax-free stipends. You will be provided with a NET take-home for each week you are on assignment with Millennium.
Who determines the lodging and per diem stipend rates?
The stipend rates are determined by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and vary by location, delegating the maximum allowance for meals, incidentals, and lodging per each county. Learn more by visiting the GSA site.
Do I get paid sick time?
Sick time laws vary from state to state. Please check with your recruiter to clarify the regulations for your state.
Do I receive paid vacation time?
Travelers do not receive vacation time; any time off must be presented during submission and be approved by management. You will not be paid for vacation time.
What is the difference between a staff employee and a travel employee?
A staff employee is hired directly by the facility and is on the facility’s payroll, usually for a permanent or per-diem position. A travel employee is hired by an agency to work a contract (generally starting as a 13-week contract with the option to extend if available) at a facility and is on the agency’s payroll. You do not need to commute a certain distance to the facility to be considered a travel employee.
What does the process look like from initial contact to job offer with your company?
The process involves the following steps:
- Build a Profile: Connect with a Recruiter to discuss your experience and career goals, as well as complete a skills checklist via our online competency portal and provide submission requirements (resume, references, certifications etc.) to your Recruiter via email.
- Choose Your Future: Your Recruiter will contact you with a list of current job openings that match what you are looking for and you will let them know which ones you are interested in being considered for.
- Submit Your Profile: Our Account Managers will submit your profile to the open positions you chose and monitor your submission status daily. At this point, you may be contacted directly via phone for an interview by the facility. If a position closes or the facility decides to go a different direction, you will be notified by your Recruiter immediately and present alternative opportunities to consider.
- Receive an Offer: We usually receive an offer shortly after your interview. If the facility would like to make you part of their team, your Recruiter will relay all offer details to you directly.
- Congratulations!: If you choose to accept the offer, we will notify the facility, your file will be moved to the Compliance Department to begin onboarding, and you will start at your new position usually within a few weeks of acceptance.
How soon can I start my new position after I accept the offer?
The soonest you would start your new position is generally 3 weeks after acceptance. This allows you to give proper notice to your current employer and complete the onboarding process with the Compliance Department.
I want to make sure I remain consistently employed. What steps are taken to extend my contract? What happens if my contract is not extended?
About halfway through your contract, your Recruiter will contact you to see if you would like our agency to inquire with the facility about extending your contract. If the facility would like to extend your contract, you will receive an updated service agreement reflecting the extension offer, which includes your new contract dates. If the facility decides not to extend your contract, you will be contacted by your Recruiter with available job opportunities to consider and repeat the process noted above until we find the perfect match for your next career move.
